Canada Day Surprise

What an exciting surprise to see that Honeymoon Suite is still alive and kicking!  While out on a Canada Day celebration, we found out that they were booked at the last minute.  Despite being 25 years later, the boys looked and sounded great.

Apparently, they even have a new album coming out.  Glad to see the boys again.  If you’re feeling nostalgic, look them up and see if you can catch them out on tour.

She’s no whiner

Rarely do I ever comment on the music I listen to, but after all the negative press about Amy Winehouse, I didn’t change the channel on my Sirius satellite radio when she came on.

Things haven’t been the same since I listened.

She deserved every Grammy she won.  I cannot believe she’s written most of her album herself, at her young age.

Calling her a musical genius may be an understatement.  Can you imagine if Ray Charles were alive and could duet with her?  Both artists hit me the same way.

Bewitched is bedazzling

More proof that I was born 20 years too late...I have recently started watching Bewitched, which for all intents and purposes, was probably one of the best TV series ever produced.

Most if it seems to be out on DVD now, and I highly recommend it over today’s TV offerings.

Mel Blanc

A fascinating interview with the most talented voice actor the planet has ever seen.

Google saves

Listening to 680 news on the radio, I head about this foundation banning sad books.

Quickly, I found this link, which pointed out that this was satire.

Be careful listening to so-called legit news outlets...they most likely haven’t passed journalism 101, and are therefore no more reliable than any web outlet.

Tammy Faye Messner dies

I’m not sure why this is so upsetting to me...but it is.

Tammy Faye Messner, the former televangelist and Christian singer who battled drug addiction and later inoperable cancer, died Friday morning, CNN’s Larry King said Saturday night. He said the family had asked him to make the delayed announcement.
art.ptl.ap.jpg

Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker in 1987, the year of the PTL scandal that sent him to prison.

She was 65.

CNN has great coverage of the death, of course.

If you haven’t seen the video interview this past Thursday, then watch it on the site.  It’s like watching a dead woman talking.  If you haven’t seen Tammy like I haven’t in a while, you’re in for quite the shock.

Guy Ritchie is fantastic

It’s been a while since I’ve been really impressed with someone I had a prejudice against.  My latest enlightenment is about Mr. Madonna, who has created (at least) two brilliant movies.

Guards ‘use me like a rag doll’

This story is coincidental, seeings how I just watched similar scenes in The Shawshank Redemption (10th Anniversary 2-Disc Special Edition)

An inmate alleges that a courthouse guard used him as a target for martial arts kicks while several beat him and used his shackled body as a mop to wipe juice off a cellblock floor.

Merciful ratings

I see I’m not the only one who thinks Rick Mercer is Canada’s top comic.

Buy Ray for Xmas

Have I mentioned that I’m a huge Ray Charles fan?

If you want to order what appears to be his last recorded concert, get

Ray Charles With the Voices of Jubilation Choir (2006) for Xmas.  You won’t regret it.

Madonna done good

I don’t know who does more damage to the world: lawyers or activists.

“These so-called human rights activists are harassing me every day, threatening me that I am not aware of what I am doing,” Banda said. “I’m afraid David may be sent back and the orphanage may not even accept him back. So where will he end up? Here? He will certainly die.”

More should be done to bring first world wealth to the third world, before they come and overrun the first world, and we all have nothing.

Madonna, for all her faults, is doing good.  Damn the do-gooders who would scuttle her!

Who Knew?

This is exciting.

‘The Who Channel’ to Launch September 21 Exclusively on SIRIUS Satellite Radio

Sure beats the Rolling Stones Channel.

If you don’t have Sirius radio, you’re missing out.

Crickey!

At least he died doing what he loved to do.

Steve Irwin, the hugely popular Australian television personality and conservationist known as the ``Crocodile Hunter,” was killed Monday by a stingray while filming off the Great Barrier Reef. He was 44.

Rags to riches

Only in America do you read of such rags to riches stories.

Aaron Spelling, a onetime movie bit player who created a massive number of hit series, from the vintage “Charlie’s Angels” and “Dynasty” to “Beverly Hills 90210” and “Melrose Place,” died Friday, his publicist said. He was 83.

I smell a good album

Nothing like a breakup to inspire some spine-chilling lyrics.

But in new issues out today both People and Us Weekly are reporting the 32-year-old Ottawa songwriting superstar and the Vancouver-born actor, her boyfriend of four years and fiancee of two, have split.

Iceberg sucks

Sorry, I’ve tried to listen to Iceberg radio.  The PD doesn’t know what she’s doing.  If you’re going to play all new stuff, and rarely have any old stuff we learned to like by being forcefed it for years, than you’ll never be able to count me in your audience.

The invisible airwaves of Iceberg Radio on Sirius Canada crackle with the sounds of everyone from Stompin’ Tom, Rush and Bryan Adams to Hot Hot Heat, Bedouin Soundclash and Bif Naked.

Here’s another idea: how about a good disc jockey or 3 to hold our hands through some of this crap?  As schticky as he is, I’m starting to like Cousin Brucie on Sirius 6.

Idol thoughts

Sad to admit, but I did watch Idol last night, and was impressed.  I think Alan liked it too.

“American Idol” finale, the biggest waste of time of each TV season—especially this season, when everyone and their brother knew Taylor Hicks was going to win

Keep feeding the stereotypes

Why do we listen to someone whose biggest claim to fame is her ever expanding and contracting chest?  Will anyone care in 10 years when her knockers are down to her knees?  Here’s Pammy feeding the Americans more crap about us Northerners.

The former BAYWATCH beauty, who is affected by terrifying nightmares about animal cruelty, grew up in Canada, where hunting is a way of life.

Now let me go now and catch dinner.

Is anyone listening?

Count me as one who doesn’t watch CNN anymore.

Click here for a similar chart showing total viewership. It’s not pretty either, with a 21 percent drop for Zahn, 15 percent drop for King, and 23 percent drop for Cooper…

At least ever since Fox came to Canada.

With satellite radio, video on demand, and internet TV coming, I’d hate to run a TV network now.

King of the TV money puns dies

If you ever watched Wall Street Week like I did, you’ll be sad to hear this.

Once while answering a viewer’s letter on investing in a hairpiece manufacturer, he said, “If all your money seems to be hair today and gone tomorrow, we’ll try to make it grow by giving you the bald facts on how to get your investments toupee.”

Child rearing, Hollywood style

Just desserts for Sharon Stone and her treatment of her kid - her movie skidded into the ditch on takeoff.

THERE’S a good reason why Sharon Stone had a first-class seat last Friday flying from New York to Los Angeles while her 9-month-old son, Laird, sat in coach with his nanny.

Christ, even her handbag flew first class.
