Makes you wonder

Some interesting stats here about single parenthood in Canada.

Single-parenthood is a growing phenomenon in Canada...Single-parent families are also more likely than other families to face food insecurity. For example, in 1998-1999:...Children from single-parent families are also more likely to have behavorial problems:

Makes you wonder why anyone would voluntarily raise kids without a father.

Change for the better

Amazing people will pay for their dogs’ health care, but not for their own.

Line forms here

We know there will be no shortage of male groupies out to bang Karla when she’s out (black widow effect), but a senator?

Reviled by many, defended by few, Canada’s most notorious female inmate won’t even be greeted by her family when she is released in less than a month. But CTV News has learned Karla Homolka does have some support in high places.

Could senators be any more irrelevant?

Streetcars are a waste

Many people agree that streetcars are a tremendous waste of money.

Streetcars are an inefficient, antiquated and dangerous form of transit compared to modern buses. Streetcars weigh several times more than buses and consume far more energy to operate. This weight also wears on tracks, requiring constant maintenance and periodic replacement, an expensive proposition. Overhead wires that power streetcars are unsightly. Worst of all, streetcars endanger passengers by requiring them to use platforms in the middle of the street, forcing them to cross several lanes of traffic.

Unfortunately, the TTC does not run on common sense, so there is almost no chance that they’ll be scrapped.

Streetcar lines must die

Go live in a trailer

Fred says you may be happier living in a trailer.

Now, living in a trailer is to the consumerist sensibility simply too degrading and so…I mean, my god, how could you face the neighbors? (There weren’t any.) But aside from damage to a servile dependent vanity, what is the drawback? A couple of hundred dollars buys a remarkably good stereo, music is free, libraries are good, and I for one am more comfortable in jeans and tee shirt than in Calvin and Klein trappings.

US Education is doomed

Fred holds out little hope for the future education of America’s non-Asian youth.

Take out Asians and Jews out of measures of high intellectual performance in America, and you aren’t left with much.

Bra sizes explained

A mildly amusing entry on bra sizes from a very interesting blog about plastic surgery.

Karla’s dumb

Dimanno isn’t the first one to notice that Bernardo would have probably still been the Scarboro rapist if not for Karla.

Set her free

This letter writer is bang on when it comes to the government’s latest machinations over Karly Kurls.

[Quote]Homolka is coming! Homolka is coming! Canada’s very own version of a very sick puppy is about to be released into our society. So what? Why are we all standing on soapboxes now, a decade after the fact? This homicidal female has done her time and as a virtuous society we are bound by the rules—she must be left alone, there are no exceptions. If people are so set for some extended revenge, they should attack the morons who cut the deal with this devil in the first place. If Karla wants to move back to her home town there is not a damn thing we can do about it. This is not about how bad Karla Homolka was or is, it’s about how stupid we were and are.

(Setting her free without conditions would be stupid)
