Canada Company: Many Ways To Serve
After reading about the three latest soldies to die, some of them with kids, I was glad to read there is a company that appears to offer some sort of scholarship mechanism to take care of the orphans.
Canada Company provides a platform to do things in our communities and our workplace. Making the route to serve as supportive as possible and providing the care that is deserved whenever needed is a contribution that we can, and should, make as both business leaders and citizens.

Bodies of slain soldiers return home
For the first time, I decided to welcome home #89 and #90 as they came home along the hiway of Heroes.
The bodies of two Canadian soldiers killed in Afghanistan have returned home to Canadian soil.
A somber occasion to be sure.

Happy Dominion Day!
David Warren’s annual lament to Canada past.
The project began officially with Lester Pearson’s new flag, in 1964—that ad-agency “red maple,” doubling as the emblem of the Liberal Party.

Keep Victoria’s name
Nice to see the Star on the right side of the Victoria Day “controversy”.
Today is known across the country (except Quebec) as “Victoria Day,” in honour of the queen who reined for a record 64 years. But some have suggested the name is an anachronism and should be changed.
Now let’s bring back Dominion Day.

Our war dead
A great site that illustrates our sacrifice in a very geographic way.

Calcification of education
Fulford writes that the surrender of local parents and communities to big bureaucracies is showing the inevitable results.
Education, as education bureaucrats will tell you, is the road to the future. But in much of Canada today, it’s a path to mediocrity.
I wish I was not experiencing it firsthand.

Happy Dominion Day!
Not all of us like the new Canada Day moniker.
Mark recounts how it’s Year 0 in our “young” nation.

Feed the pidgeons
See where appeasement leads? To more chaos.
Indian protesters vowed to keep the main CN rail line between Toronto and Montreal closed for another day despite a court injunction and a personal plea from OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino to end the blockade.
I can only imagine the millions of dollars this is costing the railways, and all the businesses they supply.

Mercer in Afghanistan
I’ve always liked these two Ricks.
A few months ago General Rick Hillier promised me a Christmas I would never forget; turns out he is a man of his word.
Good job, both of you guys!

Third world status
The whole “Quebec is a nation” is pretty much meaningless, and hopefully, harmless in the long term. No one knows what can of worms it may or may not have opened.
If nothing else, it’s spurred some amusing letters.
Cheer up, people, I have news for you. If the aboriginals are the “first” nation, then the Quebecois will have to settle for second nation. That means Canada would be a third nation. Now, as a third nation country we should qualify for UN help. They could send people to teach our farmers how to grow money trees and raise cash cows. That way we could feed our impoverished children.

Rae for PM!
Rae is a Conservative’s dream.
The good news for Bob Rae is that a recent Ekos Research poll shows he is the No. 1 choice of ordinary Canadians to lead the Liberal party into the next election, his popularity for the Grit job presumably strongest among Conservative voters.

Betraying again
I have no time for those who can’t be trusted.
the first line of Leanne Domi’s allegations reads: “Tie Domi has committed adultery with Belinda Stronach.”
What a lesson she’s teaching her kids, and what a message she’s sending to her constituents. Pitiful.

Bateman is the best
It really doesn’t surprise me that a Bateman isn’t considered art by the most vaunted Canadian institutions.
After all, it takes real talent to do what he does, which is far more than you can say for the other garbage appearing in these galleries.
His stuff looks better than high end photographs.

I like him too
Someone else is enjoying the first 100 days of Harper.

Let them go
Yet another reason to either let Quebec go (on our terms) or at least take back control of immigration from them.
Jihad Watch Board Vice President Hugh Fitzgerald discusses the Parti Quebecois’s favoring of francophone immigrants:

Canada is not an island
One of his better quotes - all of a sudden I’m proud to be Canadian again.
“Canada is not an island, we live in a dangerous world, and we have to show leadership in that world and that’s what we’re doing and that’s what I’m trying to do by going to support our men and women.”
It’s going to take a long time to purge the Trudeau/Chretien bad taste from my mouth.

Get lost rock stars
Yawn. Wake us up after Paul McCartney and his wife Heather go back to the Mull of Kintyre or wherever the heck it is that they call home these days.
This week, McCartney became just the latest in a string of one-time rock stars to come to Canada and tell our government how to conduct its business.

Grow up Canada
Gairdner asks why can’t Canada toss its ailing health system out for a better one.
So what I am asking is this: can’t we grow up once and for all and just admit openly that Canada should never have allowed itself to be pushed into the socialist orbit in the first place? Can’t we be courageous and say this was a huge mistake, because it was in direct conflict with our common-law principles

A man of integrity
Say what you will of Garth Turner, but you have to give him credit for being a man of integrity.
I’ll be driving back to the riding this morning, after one of the more interesting weeks of my short reincarnated political career. All you have to do is have a gander at the last couple of postings here to get a sense of the craziness that has been aswirl in Ottawa.
I hope he keeps his blog going whilst an MP.

Scandal continues
Is nothing sacred?
The world must be coming to an end soon when the Great One appears tainted.
Wayne Gretzky was recorded on a wiretap talking to the alleged financier of a gambling ring, discussing how the hockey great’s wife could avoid being implicated, a person with knowledge of the investigation told The Associated Press on Thursday.
More proof even the rich can’t have enough.

I like this guy
Apparently we have a real world MP in this parliament.
Running for public office is a standard stunt for self-consciously wacky radio hosts. But few count on actually being elected..."I think any member of Parliament should have a real job,” Mr. Arthur told the CBC. “Maybe if they all had a real job, they would sound less like Martians
How refreshing.

Inane Rulings
Do you need more proof that the people in the human rights commission are venturing into territory far from their mandate and need to be disbanded?
Canada’s top court has given the country’s human rights commission the go-ahead to investigate whether flight attendants should be paid the same as pilots and airline mechanics.

God Bless Canada
Coren reviews the election results.
The best thing about the entire process? Our new PM used the phrase, “God Bless Canada” after he won. It’s been a long since that was said by this nation’s leader.

Not on guard for thee
Thank goodness we’re giving our border guards weapons, because this story is disgraceful.
Vic Toews, who will soon be a part of the government after serving as opposition justice critic in the Canadian parliament, said he did not relish the sight of border guards leaving their posts, although managers took over and officials insisted that security was never compromised.
