Get out of jail card

Even though he may have been a good boy for the last 18 years, it’s still a tragedy that we even have a faint hope clause in Canada.  Looks like Thatcher may get out early, despite the horrific nature of the crime for which he was convicted:

Mrs. Wilson, who had already survived an attempt on her life little more than a year earlier, was bludgeoned with a sharp, curved instrument 47 times and dragged across the floor of the garage of her Regina home before being shot in the head.
She was just 43, a pretty, tiny blonde from Iowa.

The victim, it appears, has long since been forgotten, which is why we need capital punishment in this country.  The victim, of course, is no longer able to speak to a jury and give her side of the story.

Protest the YOA ACT

You know when the story of Jonathan Wamback is played on TV - my YOA protest sees a surge in hits.

Ya, I know it’s not called the YOA anymore - renaming it is the Liberal’s attempt to redress a bad law.

Crime rates

I don’t know what the crime rates are in Canada, but I suspect they are closer to European than US rates.  Samizdata has an interesting post showing how the US crime rate is actually lower than the European rate if you isolate the black on black crime.

Thus the US has a substantially lower crime rate than the major European countries!
. . .
[The US] murder rate is high largely due to the multicultural nature of our society. Inner city blacks, members of a distinct subculture, have a vastly higher criminal and victim homicide rate than our society as an average:

Right to Defend

In Canada, it is really legally impossible for the average stiff to own a gun, especially a handgun.  That said, how does one defend their property in cases like this?

A Brampton man seeking help to rid his townhouse complex of a vicious street gang remains defiant after he fought off a brazen home invasion by six thugs armed with a stun gun, pellet gun, an axe and a knife. Sporting scars to his head, throat, chest and legs, Chad Letourneau, 38, described yesterday how six men “walked right into the house” at 10 p.m. Monday and came at him “like a pack of wolves”, swiping, slashing and shooting at his face and chest with the weapons.

To me, only a gun would help in this case.

Even if this man was murdered, I’m sure the sheep of this country would do nothing.  It appears the criminals are winning.
