Jack not local
I had no idea JackFM was North America wide.
This is the so-called Jack format that’s riding radio waves all across the U.S. In the last three weeks alone, the format, or a close variant, has debuted on stations in five major metropolitan areas—Los Angeles, San Diego, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Indianapolis, adding to the half-dozen or so that had switched since Denver inaugurated the format in the U.S. a little over a year ago.
I actually like the format --- figures it was invented in the US.

Maybe that’s why
More reasons why things work like they do on American Idol.

If it doesn’t fit, you must acquit
As annoyed as I was that OJ got off, one couldn’t help but like late Johnny Cochrane.
Cochran died of a brain tumour at his home in Los Angeles, his family said.
Anyone who doesn’t believe that the title phrase didn’t win the case is mistaken.

Buy your music
Went over to Puretracks last night and actually paid for music - including Rough Trade’s All Touch.
It is possible for the music industry to make money. It just takes them too long to get with the program and embrace change.

Rock and Roll will never die
...or will it?
Rolling Stone’s Bill Werde reports that Philadelphia no longer has a modern rock station, as last bastion Y100 went out on Feb. 24 as a Pearl Jam lamb and came in a few minutes after midnight like a hip-hop lion.

The new media
This guy thinks he has seen the future of media.
Over the next ten to twenty years there will be a revolution in broadcasting so drastic that I believe TV sets will virtually disappear in American homes within the next 25 years. The in-home AM/FM radio is already going the way of the 1950’s short-wave, and within 15 years will become a curiosity.
Interesting ideas.

Cameron dies
I always liked Bill Cameron - sorry to see him go so early.
Veteran broadcast journalist and former CityPulse anchor Bill Cameron passed away early Saturday morning after a battle with cancer. He was 62-years-old.

Someone else really likes The O’Reilly Factor.
That said, your nightly presentation, The O’Reilly Factor, has now become my favourite TV show. So much so that, if I have a commitment elsewhere, I tape it. It’s a no-miss event.
I am thrilled it’s giving the Liberals fits.

Rick Mercer’s Monday Report
He’s no real friend of the right, but damn, Monday Report is the best show on the CBC in a long time.
Get your FoxNews
I almost forgot to order Fox News from Uncle Ted Rogers - imagine my surprise when I learned it’s free until March 16. Tune to channel 197 and get your fill!

Deserved props
A profile of the blogger who inspired this site and its design - and who has changed media for the better.
This morning, the New York Sun has a very good profile of some guy named Charles Johnson: The Blogger Who Helped to Dislodge Dan Rather.

Apparently I’m not the only one who loves Idol.
TV viewers couldn’t wait for their “American Idol” fix, turning out 33.5 million strong for its season debut.
Having it once a year and not over-milking the idea helps. Restraint works - a conservative concept.
The best part is watching the delusional fools be, well, delusional about their abilities.
The parade of fat (black) people is also incredible. (North) America has a serious weight problem.

Rather criminal
Buchanan has some harsh words for CBS and Rather, whose career is ending in a pile of burnt ashes.
Where is the outrage of Rather, whose reputation has been ruined and career destroyed by the criminals who cooked up the fakes? Last September, Rather said that if the memos turned out to be fake, he would love to break that story. Why hasn’t he? Why hasn’t CBS turned the dogs loose on those who did this to it?

Rivers dies
I grew up on AM radio - and was slow to switch to FM. Therefore, I liked Tom Rivers and his ilk, and am sad to hear he died.
Everything about Tom Rivers was big: His size (6-foot-8 “in round figures,” as he’d say), his genuine talent for mayhem and his impact on Toronto.

It’s about time
Finally we can see Fox TV - too bad it’s not on basic cable.
Canadian fans of Fox TV will soon be able to watch the network’s lively and controversial all-news channel here in Canada.

Radio kick start
I don’t know if the future is satellite radio - but this will sure help.
Potty talk could be just what the fledgling satellite radio industry needs to become a viable, mainstream business, industry analysts said Wednesday in the wake of shock jock Howard Stern’s defection to satellite network Sirius.
Internet based radio will probably be what takes over, but we’ll see.

I’ll miss Blatch
Oh well, another Toronto newspaper charging pr0n rates per month that I won’t be reading.
The Globe and Mail have joined the paid content derby, announcing a package which will eventually cost $14.95 a month for
I’d really like to know how many people pay. It can’t be many.
Hard to keep up
Dabioch can’t figure out Coren, and his changing religions. I have to agree that I can’t either.
For years I have tried to understand Michael Coren and why he keeps changing colours.

End of Dan
I never did like Dan Rather....seems like this latest not-checking-your-facts in the rush to be first with tabloid journalism may be his undoing, at least according to Mark.
I have a feeling after November CBS News will be promoting Dan Rather to editor emeritus.
Kudos to LGF for helping blow this thing wide open - and putting another nail in the mainstream media’s coffin.

To skin a cat
Gary is disgusted with the cat killing film getting all the hype.
So is there any question the Toronto International Film Festival is going to show Casuistry: The Art of Killing a Cat? Applause, applause. Here’s one hand clapping.
While it is no doubt more of a snuff film, I am on the side of not censoring it. Once people see how disgusting their fellow human is, they may be far more sympathetic to their fellow creature. They may also be more willing to see stiffer sentences for all forms of violence, including against humans. It’s fairly well documented that animal torturers are just a step away from attacking humans.
That said, I have no intention of seeing it.

Kinsella on blogs
Warren has a piece worth reading on blogs.
The consensus: Pay attention to the bloggers, because the bloggers are certainly paying attention to you. Thousands of people around the globe, we were told, are becoming bloggers. Why?
Here are 10 reasons I offered up during my presentation. One famous New York City blogger, Jay Rosen, immediately called me “stupid and narrow”—but lots of other self-important conference participants were seen nodding their conspiratorial noggins.
Warren has good content, even if I disagree with most of it. Ironic that he has lousy software driving his blog, if any at all (not even permalinks).

Corrosive popcorn propaganda
A review of Moore’s now over $100 million dollar movie.
What’s wrong with Fahrenheit 9/11?
Michael Moore claims that Bush is manipulating the American people. But who is manipulating whom?

Sound of bad music
I don’t normally feel badly for dentists, but the SOCAN money grab story makes me so inclined.
The tranquil music that wafts through many dental offices to soothe patients and mask the sounds of the drill may soon be silenced. The music industry is putting the bite on dentists – demanding that they pay for the right to play it.
The music industry is constantly going the wrong way when it comes to gaining any sympathy for their fight against consumers. Go download a song today in protest.
