lgf: Looking Terror in the Eye
Go to LGF and follow the links to this 9/11 story:
Here’s a chilling account from the ticket agent who checked in Mohamed Atta and Abdul Aziz al Omari at the airport in Portland, Maine: He looked terror in the eye - and blinked. (Hat tip: Richard D.)

Freedom takes root
He is the symbol of freedom
This must be killing the Euroweenies and nay-sayers.
The man replacing the mayor of Baghdad — who was assassinated for his pro-American loyalties — says he is not worried about his ties to Washington.
In fact, he’d like to erect a monument to honor President Bush in the middle of the city.

Iran is next
The question is now down to timing.

Nuclear aces
GWB may not pronounce nuclear properly, but he has demonstrated in Iraq that he capable of laying down his cards. That’s why this article makes sense.
Why hasn’t Osama bin Laden’s terror network executed an attack on U.S. soil since 9-11?
Simple, says Dr. Jack Wheeler, creator of an acclaimed intelligence website dubbed “the oasis for rational conservatives”: The U.S. has threatened to nuke the Muslim holy city of Mecca should the terror leader strike America again.

Communism not waning here
A disturbing story emerging from Venezuela. Who said communist aggression was dead?
The government of Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez will expropriate its first farm, taking Venezuela straight down Zimbabwe road. The grab was announced this morning and will happen Saturday. The chavistas’ first target is a British-owned cattle ranch. The move is a bold beginning for the chavista communists who will roll out both military and police forces for the seizure, beginning the first in a series.

We’re in it
Why Canadians don’t support defending their own country is beyond me. Clearly, we’re going to be involved in it whether Paul Martin chooses to admit it or not.

Future wars
This should keep the casualty count down in Iraq.
Now Foster-Miller’s TALON robots are being adapted for a new purpose—to serve as a weapons-firing robot army that can be on the move night and day

Osama’s back
The latest Osama video is the strangest piece. I don’t know what to think about it, especially since I believe that Osama’s been dead for some time now. The quote below seems to indicate that this isn’t even him speaking:
“It never occurred to us that the commander-in-chief of the American armed forces would leave 50,000 of his citizens in the two towers to face these horrors alone,” he said.
Honestly, it sounds like drivel from the Democrats. Then again, why would they “release” a video like this that will only help Bush? I am still waiting for Osama to appear November 1.

Pathetic EUers
LGF reports a story so pathetic that it’s hard to believe it’s true.
The Europeans, he said, were staying away as the evidence might be used eventually to put Saddam Hussein to death.

No blood on his hand
David Warren comments on the latest bombing and beheading news cycle, including this important paragraph:
But a friend, who watches TV, notes some expostulation by a CNN correspondent, who said that with the death of Mr. Bigley, the British prime minister, Tony Blair, “has blood on his hands”. This, my friend adds, is the moral and intellectual equivalent of asserting that Winston Churchill started the Holocaust. It is a judgement on events so utterly upside down as to constitute, in itself, a real evil.
May Allah Bless them
Not everyone in the middle east hates Americans, reports David Frum.
Also unusual is the strong sentiment for the foreign troops protecting Kabul - especially the Americans. “Someday we want the Americans to leave - but not
now. They are friendly, they are kind and they have given us peace, May Allah bless them,” said one guy after voting. This view overlaps on the the Canadian troops and the Norweigans, German, and French too.
Strange, but the successful elections haven’t made much press in the liberal media.

What the war is about
The media wants to simplify the reasons for being in Iraq to a purified WMD pablum. If you listen long enough you might start to believe it. David Warren reminds us of what the war is really about and why Bush must win.
It sure wasn’t about WMD hidden in Iraq—one of several public arguments for removing Saddam Hussein which, because it didn’t work out, has been hailed by our media (which once bought into the argument but has since cashed out) as the only reason.

More on the ROP
Two entries, one here and another here, from the indispensable Little Green Footballs. With so many passages in the Koran sanctioning the terrorists’ head rolling strategy, it’s clear that the enemy is all around us. Scary stuff, especially the way the mainstream media whitewashes the enemy’s whole agenda to destroy the Christian/secular West.
The BBC says Arabs are ambivalent over hostage crisis, but read the article and you’ll see that this is an absurd understatement.
In a phone poll on Al Jazeera, 93% supported the kidnapping and murder of infidels.
How in the world
With heads rolling again in Iraq, how do companies get anyone to work there?
Six Egyptian engineers working for the mobile telephone company that provides service to central Iraq have been abducted in the past several days, prompting a company official to warn that the phone network would shut down if its remaining foreign workers fled the country in fear.
The danger pay must be huge.

Terrorist scumbags strike again
There are very few things more disgusting, sickening, and saddening than this.
A video posted today on a Web site showed the beheading of a man identified as American construction contractor Eugene Armstrong.

Their power, their bomb is our umbrella
A good post at Harry’s Place for all Canadians (who are almost as anti-American as the Euroweenies).
Alistair Cooke began his ‘Letter from America’ broadcasts in 1946 and he continued until the month of his death in March 2004. His ‘letter’ of December 2002, reproduced in full below, should be compulsory reading for every placard-waving, badge-wearing, slogan-chanting, effigy-burning anti-imperialist (sic) who treads the soil in ‘free’ Europe.

There is hope
Things are getting better in Iraq, despite what you read/hear in the mainstream media.
Most of today’s media is dominated by stories of car bombs and kidnappings. However, the new Iraq
is a beautiful land, full of wonderful people who are thankful that a dictator has been removed, and are
hopeful for the future of their free society that is making great progress everyday.

Names for the terrorists
I too have been annoyed at the many different (non) words for the lower-than-scum terrorists being described in the media.
Interesting to see how the mainstream press characterizes terrorists.
Daniel Pipes has given some typical examples in recent coverage of the Beslan hostage taking.
Support NAMD
A very good blog entry on why Canada needs to join the US in protecting North America via the missile defence shield.
Canada should support North American Missile Defense
North American Missile Defense (NAMD) is a not only practical proposition, it is a moral necessity. The government of Canada should support its closest ally and fully embrace NAMD militarily and economically.
There are really no good reasons not to.

Face of terrorism
Life is so worthless for so many terrorists - that’s what makes fighting them so difficult.

Get the Spanish out of Spain
David Warren on the left’s continued misreading of the hot war against radical Islam.
One is moved by a quotation from the late Enzo Baldoni, the Italian freelance journalist and Red Cross volunteer who was murdered on video by the Jihadis in Iraq this week.

Thank you
A wonderful thank you note to a soldier’s wife. I should cc. it to the many Canadian soldiers’ wives that are similarly sacrificing, albeit at a more impoverished rate.
(This is a letter I wrote to the newsletter of an Army unit called The Strykers, stationed in Iraq out of Ft. Lewis, Wash. The editor asked me what I would say to make the wives feel appreciated while their husbands are in Iraq. This is what I wrote to one soldier’s wife.)

The Crusades are coming (again)
Warren says the 9/11 commission - surprise! - misses the point. So do the Democrats. Clearly, GWB (because of his beliefs?) gets it. That’s why if he doesn’t win in November, the world will be that much closer to, well, who wants to think about it?
We actually have a recrudescence—in a novel form, but with historical parallels—of this essentially religious ideal of a Jihad against all the infidels.
