Da(m)n good pizza

Hard to believe MP Dan McTeague won by almost 2:1 in a 905 (well, mostly 905) riding.  At least he eats well when away.

excaim Update: Dan responds (as is only fair):

Dan is not a bad guy.  He can be accused of grandstanding and undermining his party, but he does come across as sincere.  That’s probably why he was re-elected.  As for the pizza, it appears that with the exchange it isn’t so outrageous.  Here are excerpts of some of the email he returned to me:

(1). I have no problem with the expenses outlined on the Foreign Affairs website. They are within guidelines and, more to the point, are a matter of PUBLIC RECORD. Just like expenses claimed by the Foreign Minister and senior bureaucrats. As such, I am not hiding anything. Mr. Bourque should stop trying to claim to have “uncovered” something that is already there for all to see.

(2). None of the expenses citied involved just myself - but this was not mentioned of course as it would lessen the impact of the smear. Aside from the fact that the expense was not for “pizza”, not a word was written either on the cost of a normal lunch in Central London and Brussels, let alone the impact of exchange rates. Obviously, Mr. Bourque does not get out much.

(3). I am sorry for having breakfast at the hotel I was staying - a breakfast with two other people with me - one again being Bill Sampson. The same man I met with on several occasions during my visit to discuss what he experienced in a Saudi prison and what the Government of Canada could do in the future to assist other Canadians in similar situations. Perhaps I could have taken him in a London taxi for around 100 pounds to a cheaper place to eat. Then again, Bourque, et al, would have something to say about that. I can see the headline now: “McTeague pays for taxi ride that cost more than the cab”.

(4). I do however wonder why is it that when I expensed a $66.00 or $47.00 dinner or a $53.76 lunch, the insightful exposé says nothing at all? Why is that? Ah, but that would further lessen the great sleuthing work of Mr. Bourque in uncovering ... A PUBLIC DOCUMENT.

Thanks Tim.  In the process of obtaining another House in the riding _ it is being built as we speak, however, due to redistribution, its two streets nort of my new riding boundaries.  Such is life.
